Picean demons dwell in the depths of Aquinus, the watery demi-plane of Chaosium. They are anthropomorphic, with heads resembling those of catfish, bodies covered in transparent scales, and webbed hands and feet. A single, retractable dorsal fin appears on their back, and two lesser fins protrude from their torsos, midway between their shoulders and hips. When upright, they stand 5'-6' tall. Surrounding their mouths is a quartet of feeler-like "whiskers," each about 2' long. They cannot move their heads without moving their entire body, and when walking on dry land, picean demons must bend forward slightly to see the ground in front of them.
In water, they attack foes by stinging with their mouth whiskers. When these whipping tendrils contact flesh, their surfaces erupt with hundreds of microscopic barbs, injecting a fast-acting nerve poison that paralyses the victim (save vs. poison to avoid). Those paralysed are unable to move , attack, or defend themselves for 1d6 turns (during which time the demon typically slays and devours the unfortunate victim).
Their whiskers are ineffective out of water, so attacks on land consist of feeble swipes with their claws, though if both claws hit, the demon automatically bites for an additional 1d8 points of damage .
Their most fearsome attack, however, consists of liquifying an opponent (treat as the magic spell disintegrate). Once per day, the demon may touch a single target, who must save vs. spells or dissolve into liquid, either mixing with surrounding water (if currently submerged) or soaking into the ground (if used on dry land). Either way, the victim is lost and cannot be retrieved short of a wish.
Up to twice per day, picean demons may gategate succeeds, 2d4 additional aqua demons (65%), 1d4 picean demons (25%), or a single tentahedrix (10%) appears.
Picean demons suffer maximum damage against fire attacks. They appear on dry land only if summoned there, and their oxygen supply out of water is limited to six hours. When summoned to the Prime Plane, picean demons may be found in any aquatic environment, including saltwater oceans and marshes as well as freshwater lakes, rivers, and deltas.
